Skeptic’s Guide to Telomeres and out-of-reach grapes
If a skeptic is hell-bent on proving something, he is not really a skeptic but rather a true believer. His belief is in mistrust. There is no one more skeptical than I, I assure you. I simply come from the viewpoint that I can’t disbelieve something just because it will be ridiculed by people like the author.
Alzheimer’s risk linked to Telomere Length – (Oy Vey)
This is the latest study linking shorter telomeres to disease (there are over 10,000) that once again falls victim to proving obvious yet useless information. In this study, they linked smaller hippocampal volumes (seen in Alzheimer’s) with shorter white blood cell telomeres in a subset of women with a genetic prediliction for Alzheimers (the abnormal ApoE3 gene).
Healthy lifestyle choices lengthen telomeres
It appears that healthy choices make your telomeres longer. How is this happening? Increased telomerase activity? How is that happening? Probably better quality sleep and decreased cortisol levels, inflammation, and damage to stem cells. To learn a grand unified theory of aging and disease that dovetails with this clinical research, read “Telomere Timebombs: Defusing the terror of aging”
