Honor Columbus on this Day? I’d rather let Washington football fans keep their name…

Many would default to the notion that revisionism of the Columbus story is a politically-correct act of sophistry engaged in by elitists and malcontents. They might argue that any reevaluation of Columbus Day is cynical because there is no absolute standard of good an evil; everything is just a matter of degrees and subject to moral relativism right? I mean Lincoln was probably a racist and MLK had affairs. So why not give Christopher Columbus a bye here?

My prophecies for the 50th College reunion

In 2014, it makes many of us sad to realize that our species as a whole, and we as individuals, have been inculcated with structure and meaning as defined by the things we are taught to fear: fear of death, aging, illness, poverty, being unloved, being irrelevant…

The greatest shifts in the human condition won’t be complete until our 75th anniversary in 2089 but surprisingly, most of us will be attending that one in good health at the age of 97!

“Aging as Art” – Is it Schadenfreude or just existential sleight-of-hand?

This judged photography contest celebrated photography of older people who were “aging gracefully.” It made me realize just how I have crossed to “beyond the looking glass” because I am looking back and I don’t recognize what I see on YOUR side of the mirror. The idea of aging as art just strikes me as a horrible case of schadenfreude, or the enjoyment of suffering. Again, that is because I truly believe aging is a choice and can be prevented and reversed.

Harvard 25th College reunion – Is the Hero’s journey fractal?

So there it is. I guess everything is a reunion depending on what scale you examine. Maybe “source consciousness” as the new age philosophers call it, wants to experience itself through our lives before returning to itself. I’m not particularly spiritual or religious, but when patterns arise, they deserve mentioning. Hope you have a great week.
